Purpose
To seek delegated approval for the making of a
compulsory purchase order in relation to an empty property for the
purpose of bringing it back into use and to seek permission for all
relevant expenditure
Content
The Cabinet considered
a report of the Director of Economy and Place, which sought
approval of a Compulsory Purchase Order relating to a property in
the Borough of Rochdale, utilising powers granted under Section 17
of the Housing Act 1985 for the acquisition of land for the purpose
of providing housing. This power included the acquisition of empty
properties where there appears to be no other prospect of those
empty properties being brought back into use.
The Head of Strategic
Housing (Property) and the Empty Property Team Lead were in attendance to present the information and to
address the questions and the comments of the Cabinet Members.
The owner of the
property in question had requested to attend this meeting with a
representative, in order to address the Cabinet Members on this
matter and to make representations. The Chair of the meeting had
agreed to this request. However, the requestor did not attend the
meeting.
