Purpose

In order to determine the requirements of a local studies facility and to determine the required retention, storage spaces, and access to spaces housing archive materials, it is necessary to fund and commission specialist input, to conduct an archive exercise to carry out a review of the local studies collection prior to making recommendations about the required facilities in the library or museum retention or disposal of items currently included.

Decision

To support the project with an additional sum of £628.53 from S106 contributions.

Alternative options considered

The alternative option would be to not support funding for this project. The service have undertaken its own preparatory review of the archive materials but in order to inform CLT and to make a decision on creating a suitable storage facility a professional archiving input for the project is required to determine the feasibility of a space within the library or museum space. before There is funding available from unspent S106 agreements and no other project coming forward to take advantage of this at present. There is a risk that unspent S106 monies would need to be repaid to developers in due course.
