Purpose

Museum Accreditation is the UK
standard for museums and galleries.  It
is administered by Museum Development North on behalf of Arts
Council England.

It is the process via which
museums and galleries are assessed and endorsed.  The Accreditation Standard is a handbook for
running a successful museum, ensuring participants have essential
policies, plans and procedures in place.  It covers requirements for Organisational Health,
Managing Collections and User Engagement.

The scheme offers assurance to
funders, lenders, donors and other stakeholders that a museum has a
solid foundation.
