Purpose

To appraise the Cabinet Members
and seek approval to declare six vacant residential properties held
within both the Public Health and Wellbeing and Cleansing and
Street Scene portfolios as surplus to operational
requirements.

(1) 
The declared six residential properties
detailed within this report as surplus to operational requirements,
be noted.
(2) 
The responsibility was transferred for the six
properties to the Cabinet Member for Regeneration Economy and
Skills to be managed under the Council’s Asset Management
Strategy and disposed of within the Asset Disposal programme for
2025/26, be noted.
 
Reason(s) for the
Decision(s):
 
The disposals will
generate capital receipts, reduce the Council’s maintenance
and property holding costs, bring vacant residential properties
back into use and cease the Council Tax burden currently placed
upon Operational In-House Services revenue budget.
 
Alternative Options
Considered and Rejected:
 
Not to dispose of
the properties. However, the Council do not have an operational
need for the premises, and this would not assist in the wider
objectives linked to bringing vacant residential premises back into
use. The properties are also a liability from a maintenance
perspective, and the Council incurs significant Council Tax costs
whilst they are vacant.
