Purpose

As part of the Southport 2026
Cultural Events Programme the Liverpool City Region Combined
Authority (LCRCA) have allocated £500k towards the event
programme. This is part of the Mayor’s commitment to Culture
and builds on the previous Borough of Culture Programme. The funds
awarded have been specifically allocated to Southport as part of
the economic recovery plan.

Decision(s):

 
(1) 
The approved supplementary revenue estimate of
£500,000 was to be spent on the Cultural Events Programme and
was fully funded by the LCRCA, be noted.

(2) 
The acceptance of the Liverpool City Region Combined
Authority Funding offer of £500,000 for the for the Southport
2026 Cultural Programme of Events with the grant fund agreement
delegated to the Assistant Director Place for completion, be
noted.

 
Reason(s)
for the Decision(s):
 
The
Southport 2026 events programme is one of the main drivers for
recovery, the aim of the events is to drive footfall and increase
overnight stays. The launch of the programme has already gained
national attraction, combined with the existing events programme
along with the Open Golf this will be a transformational year for
Southport. The LCRCA funding allows the events programme to
progress.
