Purpose

The purpose of this report is to seek approval to introduce the Housing Responsible Pet Ownership Policy and make amendments to the Right to Buy Policy which has previously been approved and adopted. These policies will facilitate the management of new council housing.

That the two policies detailed in the report, be approved.

Reason(s) for the Decision(s):

Approval to the two policies will ensure that the Council has the correct detail included within the Right to Buy Policy and will provide a clear framework to supporting and addressing pet ownership within the Council’s homes. Further policies may be required as the Council progresses with the delivery of new homes and takes more homes into management.

Alternative Options Considered and Rejected

The Council could opt not to adopt the polices. This option is not recommended as it would leave the Council without a robust policy framework for the management of its properties and tenancies. Tenants would be unclear as to the Council’s approach to service delivery and the Council would also be at risk of non-compliance with legislation, regulation and the Complaint Handling Code.
