Purpose

This report is presented to Cabinet Member to approve the project at Salesian St John Boscoe Academy that is part of the Pope Francis Multi Academy Trust.

Decision

Decision:

  1. The approved allocation of £213,500 to Salesian St John Bosco Academy from the capital receipt generated through the sale of the former St Wilfrid’s site was endorsed. The funding supported the development of 3G pitches, enabling students to access and use the facilities throughout the year. In addition, the facility provided opportunities for the wider community to participate in physical activity and sport, helping to promote health, wellbeing, and community engagement. All this information be noted.

Reasons for the recommendation:

A 3G pitch provides a durable, all-weather playing surface that can be used year-round, increasing participation, reducing cancellations, and lowering maintenance demands compared to natural grass. Its versatility and reliability make it a cost-effective investment that supports greater community use, improved player development, and enhanced opportunities for sport and physical activity.

This project aligns closely with the Sefton Playing Pitch Strategy and the Local Football Facilities Plan, which highlight the pressing need for additional 3G pitch provision in the area. Specifically:
