Purpose
To seek Cabinet Member approval
to temporarily close the footway of Northway, Maghull in various
phases and to also implement a temporary speed limit of 20mph
between 12th August 2024 and 4th April 2025
in both the northbound and southbound carriageways of Northway,
Maghull. These will be necessary to safely undertake public realm
works for the A59 corridor works.
Decision
Decision(s):
(1)
the implementation of the temporary speed limit and
footway closures be approved.
(2)the necessary legal procedures,
including those of public consultation and advertising the
Council’s intention to implement the Order, be
approved.
Reasons
for the Decision(s):
The Council has the power to
make temporary Traffic Regulation Orders under (Section 14 of the
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984). The
proposed public realm works will not be able to be completed safely
without the speed limit and footway closures being
implemented.
Alternative Options
Considered and Rejected: (including any
Risk Implications)
Permanent lane closures to
accommodate pedestrians was considered but decided against due to
the impact on the road network.
