Purpose

To seek Cabinet Member approval
to temporarily close Brook Road & Ince Road, Thornton in
various phases, to allow Cadent Gas to undertake essential gas
mains replacement works.

Decision

Decision(s):
 

(1) 
the temporary closures of Brook Road and Ince Road,
Thornton be approved.

(2) 
the necessary legal procedures, including those of
public consultation and advertising the Council’s intention
to implement the Order, be approved.
 

Reasons for the Decision(s):
 
The Council has the power to
make temporary Traffic Regulation Orders under (Section 14 of the
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984). 
 
Alternative Options
Considered and Rejected: (including any
Risk Implications)
 
The use of temporary traffic
signals was also considered. The remaining carriageway width was
close to being below the minimum required and the duration of the
works would also be longer. The works are required to be undertaken
during school holidays, so the closure was deemed the most
appropriate method to ensure it was completed before the school
returned.
