Purpose

The purpose of this report is to seek the Cabinet Member’s approval to publish an updated Housing Standards Civil Penalties Policy for Sefton.

Decision(s):

That the updated Housing Standards Civil Penalties Policy 2024 be approved.

Reasons for the Decision(s):

All policies are reviewed periodically to ensure that they remain up to date and relevant. An updated policy has been drawn up after a review of the current policy and updated to reflect best practice in the sector. Many of the aspects of the current policy are now out of date and advise from the Council’s Legal Department has been incorporated into the revised policy.

Alternative Options Considered and Rejected: (including any Risk Implications)

The Council could continue to rely on the existing (outdated) policy, however It is important that the Council provide clear up to date policies which helps avoid misinterpretation.
