9.3

Reasons for
Decision

9.3.1

The Trees and Woodlands Strategy 2018-2033 is
a comprehensive plan aimed at sustainably managing the city's tree
cover over 15 years. It remains the key strategy setting out the
aims and objectives for trees and woodlands across the city and is
the backdrop of decision-making and identifying priorities. With
recent changes to key local and national guidance and legislation,
it is prudent to review and update the contents of the
strategy.

9.4

Alternatives
Considered and Rejected

9.4.1

Alternative option
1: Do nothing.
The Trees and Woodlands Strategy 2018-2033 has
9 more years left and there is an option to not carry out a
review/update at this stage. However, the original 5-year
management plan that accompanied the strategy is now in need of
updating. By doing nothing we would end up with a strategy document
out of line with new guidance and practices and an out-of-date
management plan.

9.4.2

Alternative option
2: Review 5-year management plan but not main strategy
document.
Only updating the management plan would leave
parts of the main strategy out of line with new legislation,
guidance and practices.
