Reasons for
Decision
8.3.1
The Economic Development and Skills Policy
Committee’s Climate Statement is a valuable tool for both
articulating the committee’s role in supporting
Sheffield’s journey to net zero but also helping the
committee to track its progress. There has been significant
progress against the key actions within the statement including
delivery of the Low Carbon Business Support Programme and the
development of the Employment and Skills Strategy. But there is
still much to do, including maximising the opportunities through
the Investment Zone and developing the Business Decarbonisation
Route Map. The Committee will be kept updated as these activities
progress.

Alternatives
Considered and Rejected
8.4.1
Alternative Option 1: Not providing committee
climate statement updates due to the resource required to collate.
This option was rejected as it would fail to support the
Council’s commitment to achieve Net Zero set out in the
Council Plan and the Ten Point Plan for Climate Action. The Climate
Statements have also helped to support the requirement for all
committees to take climate into consideration in decision making by
clarifying the specific impacts for Committees.
