10.1.1

Members of the committee
considered a report of the Executive Director Neighbourhood
Services outlining its climate statement for 2025/26. The committee
has responsibility for the Council’s key environmental
services including waste management, highways maintenance, parking
services, licensing and environmental regulation. The statement
re-iterates the cross-party council commitment to taking what
action we can to address the climate emergency, adapt our city and
council for a changing climate and reduce emissions to achieve our
ambition to be a net zero city and council by 2030.

 

 

10.2

RESOLVED: That the Waste and
Street Scene Policy Committee;
 
On the back of the decision
taken by the Strategy and Resources Policy Committee at its meeting
held on 13 December 2023, the Committee:
 
1. Considers and agrees its
statement to ensure that the proposed actions contained in such
statement are reflected in their Work Programme.

 

 

10.3

Reasons for Decision

 

 

10.3.1

The Waste & Street Scene
Policy Committee has delegated authority to monitor the performance
of Waste & Street Scene services to ensure that:
 
• It is important that the
response to the Annual Climate Progress Report is open and
transparent in setting out the challenges which the local authority
faces in making progress and clarifies future expectations on the
part we all have to play in addressing climate
change.
• So that committee
consider and, if not previously agreed, agree (with or without
amendments) to ensure that the proposed actions contained in the
Climate Statement form part of the annual work
programme.
• The Council is
delivering on corporate priorities
