12.1

The committee considered a report of the Executive
Director Neighbourhood Services seeking approval from the Housing
Policy Committee for Sheffield City Council’s consultation
response to the Government regarding the implementation of the
Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023. The report also
outlined other work undertaken and in progress within Sheffield
City Council (the Council) to prepare for implementation of the

12.2

RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY:
That the Housing Policy Committee:-

 

(a) 
Considers and approves the Council’s proposed
consultation response to Government on part 1 of the Supported
Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023 implementation consultation
in the form attached at Appendix 2.

(b) 
Notes the work being undertaken and ongoing within
the Council in preparation for the implementation of the Supported
Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023

12.3

Reasons for Decision

12.3.1

Responding to the consultation helps the Council to influence the
implementation of legislation that has an important impact on the
functions carried out by the Council. If implemented well the
legislation has the potential to make a positive difference to the
lives of people who have a range of needs and face disadvantage. It
is important that the Council is proactive in preparing for the
implementation and continues to progress the other work outlined in
this report.

Alternatives Considered and Rejected

 

 

12.4.1

Alternative Option 1: Do not submit a consultation
response

 

Not submitting a response would mean the Council
misses out on an opportunity to influence the implementation of the
legislation. This would be regrettable because the legislation will
have a significant impact on the duties placed on the Council. The
duties relate to important Council objectives, and it is important
the officers and Members have an opportunity to shape the
legislation.
