8.1

The
Public Health Principal introduced the report which gave an update
on the food strategy and future commissioning model which was
agreed by the Strategy and Resources Policy Committee on 12th July
2023 (“Sheffield Food Strategy and Future Commissioning Model
for Improving Diet/Obesity Prevention 2024-2029”).
 
Approval was sought for a grant programme of up to
£215,000 over 4 years, including multiple grants which may be
over £50,000 each. Delegated authority was sought to award
grants within that grant programme to the Director of Public
Health.

 

 

8.2

RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY: That Finance and
Performance Policy Committee:-
 

a)   
Note the contents of this report regarding the food strategy and
future commissioning model.

b)   
Approve a grant programme of up to £215,000 over 4 years
including multiple grants which may be over £50,000 each to
support the delivery of the food strategy and action
plan.

c)   
Delegate authority to the Director of Public Health to award grants
from the food strategy grant programme as detailed in point c
above.

 

 

8.3

Reasons for Decision

 

 

8.3.1

Realigning the budget and approval of a grant programme will
support the on-going delivery of the SCC Food Strategy and action
plan via partnership working and will enable resources to be
directed to work towards a local food system that is fairer,
greener and healthier and continues to positively impact on
different groups.

 

 

8.4

Alternatives Considered and Rejected

 

 

8.4.1

Alternative Option 1: Maintaining the funding for
ShefFood and food action plan delivery
at £10k per annum. This would put delivery of the strategy at
risk by limiting capacity for partnership working and limiting
progress on the food action plan.

 

 

8.4.2

Alternative Option 2: Realigning the budget to increase
funds to other work areas within the food and health
programme
