10.1
The Head of Lifelong Learning and Skills
brought a report which provided an overview of the apprenticeship
landscape in Sheffield. It gave regional and national context,
relevant statistical data and an update on current
delivery.
10.2
RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY: That the Economic
Development, Skills and Culture Policy Committee notes:
a)
The positive impact of apprenticeship provision and good jobs to
both the local economy and to support young people and adults
moving into the workplace.
b)
Recent trends in national, regional and local landscape and data
with regard to apprenticeship provision.
c)
The effectiveness of delivery of apprenticeship training within the
Lifelong Learning and Skills service and how these fits into the
wider local offer and supports disadvantaged groups.
d)
The links that exist between apprenticeship opportunities and work
taking place within the Council’s Employment and Skills
Service and through South Yorkshire’s Mayoral Combined
Authority to engage local employers and organisations and to
increase the number of apprenticeship opportunities available to
residents of Sheffield.

Decision
10.3.1
No decision is required from Committee; this
paper provides an update on the apprenticeship landscape in
Sheffield and fully appraise the committee of this work and wider
work taking place regionally.

Considered and Rejected
10.4.1
None. This paper is provided for update
purposes about the delivery of apprenticeships locally and within a
regional and national context and the work that is taking place to
extend this offer future. No decision or alternative options are to
be considered at this point.
