Purpose

To report the receipt of objections and concerns to the advertised Speed Limit Order for Heavygate Road between Northfield Road and Howard Road

Decision

Authorise the making and implementation of the Speed Limit Order for Heavygate Road between Northfield Road and Howard Road and Inform all objectors accordingly.

Reasons for the decision

The proposed Speed Limit Order is required to support the wider Low Traffic Neighbourhood project by seeking to improve road safety, encourage walking, wheeling and cycling and enhance local amenity.

The proposal is being brought forward ahead of the wider scheme changes due to public requests at the drop-in sessions and the anticipated benefits of the proposal outweigh the concerns raised in the objections received.

Alternative options considered

The alternative considered was to leave the road as a 30mph road, this would be in contradiction to the Council’s policy ambitions in the Walkley neighbourhood and would not respond to the concerns raised through engagement with local residents, and it would limit the potential safety and environmental benefits associated with the proposal.
