About

The Constitution and Governance Committee is responsible for maintaining Somerset Council's Constitution, ensuring it is up-to-date and legally compliant. It considers proposed changes to the Council's constitutional arrangements and submits an annual report with recommendations for a revised Constitution to the Council's Annual General Meeting. The committee also receives assurance on election administration and oversees the Council's response to electoral reviews. Its functions exclude approving changes to operational arrangements, the Scheme of Members’ Allowances, executive arrangements, or the model of democratic governance, with such matters being referred to the full Council or other designated bodies for approval.
