The Children and Families Scrutiny Committee
RESOLVED to convey to the Executive that:
The Committee noted and welcomed the
improvements in outcomes but stressed the need for continued focus
on closing the gap at KS2 and KS4, particularly for disadvantaged
pupils and those with Special Educational Needs and
Disability.
The Committee requested comparative
data with statistical neighbours, to better understand
Somerset’s performance in the context of similar rural and
coastal authorities.
The Committee asked for further work
to support reading, including encouraging reading in early
childhood and linking opportunities into the Family Hubs
programme.
The Committee requested a short
briefing on Somerset’s two?tier and three?tier school
structures, to support Member understanding of how different models
may influence attainment.
