Given the proximity of
Huntingdonshire to South Cambridgeshire, the contents of the
Huntingdonshire Local Plan could in principle impact on the
emerging joint Greater Cambridge Local Plan, and a joint response
from Greater Cambridge is recommended.?
Background:
Huntingdonshire District
Council (HDC) are at the early stage of preparing a new Local Plan;
having consulted on Issues and Options in April – July
2023 and Further Issues in September – November 2024, to
which joint responses were made by Cambridge City Council and South
Cambridgeshire District Council. HDC are now undertaking Preferred
Options consultation.
The contents of
the Huntingdonshire Local Plan (Regulation 18) Preferred
Options consultation could in principle impact on Greater
Cambridge and have implications for the emerging joint Greater
Cambridge Local Plan. The proposed response seeks to
minimise negative and maximise any positive impacts of
Huntingdonshire’s Local Plan review on Greater
Cambridge.
The Preferred Options
consultation document is the first full draft of the Local Plan.
The purpose of this stage is to offer the opportunity to comment on
its contents. It is shaped by national policy and guidance and is
based on evidence prepared and responses received to engagement
undertaken so far.
The Local Plan sets out a
strategy for Huntingdonshire to meet their development needs up to
2046, to shape how the district will evolve. The Preferred Options
document includes details on the amount and type of housing HDC
need to provide, the level and nature of employment opportunities
needed to support the local economy and provide jobs for local
people; and the type and amount of infrastructure needed to support
this growth.

Reasons for the decision
To
provide the Councils’ comments to this consultation in
recognition of the opportunities it provides to influence the
Huntingdonshire Local Plan.?
Alternative options considered
Option 1: Decide not
to submit a response to the
consultation
Reason
for Rejection: the consultation offers the opportunity for the
Council to make comments on a neighbouring local authority’s
Local Plan to ensure the Council’s interests are
appropriately represented. The Council is also a statutory
consultee and Duty to Cooperate body in the plan making
process.
