Decision
An alteration from Councillor Richard Williams was accepted by the Chamber.
A vote was taken on the altered motion from Councillor Richard Williams (unanimous) and the altered motion was carried as follows:
“The Council notes with concern the statement by the representatives of the Greater Cambridge Development Corporation before the Scrutiny and Overview Committee on 17th September 2026 that a Water Credits System is no longer being actively pursued a priority as an immediate solution to the water crisis facing our District.
The Council further expresses its alarm at recent statements from more than one agency suggesting that water supply is no longer regarded as an immediate concern in Greater Cambridge.
The Council, whilst reiterating its opposition to the removal of planning and plan making powers from the council, calls for detailed and credible plans to resolve water shortages in our District to be brought forward and scrutinised before any formal planning powers are vested in the Development Corporation. In this context the Council expresses its alarm at the continuing absence of any detailed development or development related plans from the Government sufficient to justify or explain the imposition of a Development Corporation."
