Purpose

The
purpose of this decision is to adopt a Member Development Strategy
for the remainder of the current electoral term (up to May 2026),
in line with the Council’s 2024 to 2024 Business Plan Action
Plan.
 
This
strategy will support the Council’s key objective to develop
a detailed training programme to meet the needs of current elected
Members, and to plan for an induction programme for Members elected
in 2026.
 
The
strategy is included in full at Appendix 1 and sets out how
training needs will be identified, who is responsible for the
strategy, what types of training will be provided and through what
delivery methods, and finally what outcomes are
anticipated.
 
A
detailed Member training programme would be developed arising from
this strategy, which would be under continual review.
