Purpose

The Environment Act 2021 requires the Mayor of Greater Manchester to produce a Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS). Stockport Council is considered to be a 'supporting authority' (along with the other 9 districts, the Peak District National Park and Natural England). Cabinet are therefore asked to agree that they are content for the LNRS to be published and to authorise the Chief Executive to confirm the same in writing to the GMCA and the Mayor.

Decision

The Cabinet considered a report detailing a proposed the Greater Manchester Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) which aimed to form a key part of the response to tackling the biodiversity emergency declared by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority in 2022.

The Cabinet then agreed that the Chief Executive be authorised to confirm that the Council was content for the Local Nature Recovery Strategy to be published and agreed that the Chief Executive confirm the same in writing to the GMCA and the Mayor as the responsible body for the GM Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
