On the 10 February 2026 cabinet delegated the decision to proceed to the publication of statutory proposals to the Director of Education, Work and Skills in consultation with Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education having considered the outcome of the initial consultation.

The Director of Education, Work, & Skills, in consultation with the Cabinet
Member for Children, Families & Education, has then given approval to
proceed to consultation on the statutory proposals in respect of
amalgamation of Nevill Road Infant & Junior Schools into an all through
primary school.

Alternative options considered

The Council could leave both schools as individual Infant & Junior Schools, but this would be unsustainable long term. The amalgamation improves outcomes for children, offers one consistent leadership team for staff and families, and reduces costs overall.
