Decision
To provide a contribution of £5000 to Stratford-upon-Avon Town (STC) Council to be used for part funding of the renovations and celebrations planned to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Stratford Tramway.
Reasons for the decision
The historic Stratford Tramway connects Stratford-upon-Avon with Shipston-on-Stour and Moreton-in-Marsh. Part of the Tramway and the historic wagon fall within the ownership of SDC. As part of the planned celebrations, co-ordinated by STC, these assets will be improved, and events organised to commemorate the tramway.
The celebrations will mark a significant anniversary for Stratford, engender community spirit, attract visitors to the town and support the wider economy. It will also be used to improve the condition of SDC assets.
Alternative options considered
1. Conducting our own events to celebrate this occasion; or
2. Refusing to participate in the celebrations.
