Full council record
Decision
To provide an additional contribution of £2,500 towards Stratford-upon-Avon Town Christmas Lights for 2026.
Reasons for the decision
Stratford-upon-Avon is the main town within the Stratford-on-Avon District, it attracts high numbers of visitors and makes a significant contribution to the District’s economy.
Each year the Christmas lights are funded by a partnership including Stratford-upon-Avon Town Council, Stratford Town Trust, Stratford Bid, Local Businesses & sponsors and SDC.
This year, due to increases in energy costs, changes to standing charges and the general economic situation a £10,000 a funding shortfall has been identified if the lights are to be provided.
The £2,500 represents SDC’s contribution with the balance of £7,500 made up by other partners.
Alternative options considered
