For the Leader to decide to accept the funding from Sports England and commence the project to instal a solar array at Shipston Leisure Centre.

Reasons for the decision

The recent offer of a £135,000 grant from Sport England presents a valuable opportunity to expand renewable energy initiatives within the district. However, the strict deadline of March 31, 2025, necessitates urgent action to ensure the grant funding can be utilised.

The application demonstrates that utilising the existing contractor, Leisure Energy Limited, offers the most efficient and timely solution. They possess the necessary expertise, having already been engaged for the Stratford Leisure Centre solar panel installation, and can mobilize quickly to conduct surveys and commence installation.

Alternative options considered

Option 1 : To accept the grant funding from Sports England to undertake the project at Shipston Leisure Centre.

Option 2 : To not accept the grant funding from Sports England.

Option 3 : To accept the grant funding from Sports England but propose the use for another project within the District.

The preferred option is option 1 given the report and recommendations made to the Leader.
