About
The Standards Committee promotes and maintains high standards of conduct for councillors and other representatives, assisting them to observe the Members' Code of Conduct. It advises the Council on the Code, monitors its operation, and provides training. The committee determines if a councillor has breached the Code and decides on appropriate actions, which can include censure, removal from committees or executive roles, or withdrawal of facilities. It also grants dispensations from certain legal requirements related to conduct, considering the interests of local residents, and determines appeals against decisions on dispensations. The committee scrutinises functions of parish councils.
