Purpose

(i)                 To allow the legal process of introducing a Prohibition of Waiting Order at Ridge Hill Lane, Stalybridge to commence.

(ii)                To give public notice of a traffic calming feature (footway build-out) at the junction of Ridge Hill Lane with Stamford Street, Stalybridge.

Decision

(i)                  That approval is given for Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council in exercise of its powers under Sections 1(1), 2(1), 2(2) and 4(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 is to be granted permission to give public notice of a Prohibition of Waiting Order at Ridge Hill Lane, Stalybridge.

(ii)               That approval is given to Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council in exercise of its powers under the Highways Act 1980 is to be granted permission to give public notice of a footway build-out at Ridge Hill Lane, Stalybridge.

(iii)             Any unresolved objections will be reported at a future Speakers Panel (Planning) meeting.  If the proposals to introduce the waiting restrictions are subsequently approved, then a legal Order will be made to reflect the decision.

Reasons for the decision

To support the delivery of the already approved highway safety scheme at Darnton Road / Ridge Hill Lane, Ashton-under-Lyne and Stalybridge.

Alternative options considered

Greater Manchester’s Vision Zero strategy aims to have zero fatalities and life changing injuries on our roads by 2040.  Engineering infrastructure intervention is an important contributor to delivering the Vision Zero strategy.  The proposed measures will enhance the already approved highway safety scheme at Darnton Road / Ridge Hill Lane, Ashton-under-Lyne and Stalybridge, and therefore is the preferred option in this instance.
