Purpose
Approval is sought to allow the legal process of introducing a Restricted Parking Zone and Taxi Rank Order at Market Street, Stalybridge to commence. Approval is sought to give public notice of a traffic calming feature at Market Street, Stalybridge.
Decision
(i) Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council in exercise of its powers under Sections 1(1), 2(1) and 2(2) and of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 gives public notice of a Restricted Parking Zone and Taxi Rank Order at Market Street, Stalybridge.
(ii) Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council in exercise of its powers under section 90A of the Highways Act 1980 gives public notice of a traffic calming feature (raised plateau) at Market Street, Stalybridge.
(iii) Any unresolved objections will be reported at a future Speakers Panel (Planning) meeting. If the proposals are subsequently approved, then a legal order(s) will be made to reflect the decision.
Reasons for the decision
Revision of the parking and loading arrangements along Market Street, together with the introduction of a traffic calming feature supports the delivery of the Market Street Gateway phase of the Stalybridge Regeneration Programme.
Alternative options considered
If the report is not approved the existing parking and loading arrangements along Market Street will not align with the Stalybridge Public Realm Vision. Non-implementation of the traffic calming feature could result in higher vehicle speeds along this section of Market Street.
