Purpose

The Children’s Sufficiency Plan sets out how Tameside will make sure there are enough of the right services, placements, and support for children and young people—now and in the future.

Our care market is part of a much wider system of care and support and is often supplemented by families, friends and other carers.

This plan is for:​

(i)       Providers of children’s social care to understand our priorities and how we can work together to shape and develop our market.​

(ii)     Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise organisations to support delivery of shared priorities and support people in their communities. ​

(iii)   Registered Housing Providers who want to invest in opportunities for increasing our range of supported and extra care accommodation. ​

(iv)   People who draw on care and support and their carers so they can contribute to the design and delivery of services by sharing their lived experience.

Decision

That the Strategic Director approves the Sufficiency Plan detailed in Appendix 1. 

Reasons for the decision

Children’s Social Care is required to develop and implement local approaches to market-shaping and commissioning which should include:

(i)       designing strategies that meet local needs.

(ii)     engaging with providers and local communities.

(iii)   understanding the market.

(iv)   facilitating the development of the market.

(v)     integrating their approach with local partners.

(vi)   securing supply in the market and assuring its quality through contracting.

This decision approves this plan and agrees publication to the extranet.

To continue operating without a Sufficiency Plan at the risk of impacting children and families.
