Local Authority Grant Programme funding use (In Work Progression team)
January 23, 2024 Executive Member (Strategic Improvement and Corporate Vision) (Cabinet member) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
To consider the use of the Local Authority Grant Programme funding to retain resource following the decision from Treasury not to continue ‘Tameside In Work’ in work progression project.
Decision
That it be DETERMINED that Tameside Council utilise Local Authority Grant Programme funding from GMCA to continue the work of the In Work Progression project, allocating £100,000 from this budget.
Reasons for the decision
Due to the success of the In Work Progression (IWP) pilot in Tameside, the Department for Work & Pensions put forward a business case to Treasury to extend the project across GM and fund the team in Tameside for a further 12 months. This business case was unfortunately unsuccessful and therefore, this report puts forward a proposal to continue the work of this team utilising funding provided by GMCA, maintaining a cost neutral position to TMBC. To continue the valuable work of the In Work Progression offer, aligning this work to key local priorities, such as homelessness prevention to achieve our corporate aims.
