Purpose
Permission is sought under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to advertise:
1. A 20mph zone on Bank Street Bentinck Street and Whalley Close, Ashton-under-Lyne; and
2. A prohibition of waiting order on Bentinck Street and Whalley Close.
Decision
That it be DETERMINED that:
- Permission is given under section 84(1)(a) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to advertise a 20mph zone within the Bank Street Area, Ashton-under-Lyne.
- Permission is given under sections 1(1), 2(1) and 2(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to advertise a Prohibition of Waiting Order within the Bank Street Area, Ashton-under-Lyne.
- Any unresolved objections will be reported at a future Speakers Panel (Planning) meeting, otherwise if unopposed the proposals will be approved and the legal Orders will be sealed.
Reasons for the decision
- To support the Cavendish Wharf development by introducing a 20mph zone that is legally enforceable, thereby encouraging lower vehicle speeds within the area;
- To prevent obstructive parking on Bentinck Street and within the entrance/turning head of the Cavendish Wharf development.
