Local Development Scheme Update 2026
September 30, 2026 Strategic Growth Director (Other) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
The report sought to ensure the Council has an up-to-date Local Development Scheme (LDS) as required by Section 15 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (as amended).
The LDS contained the key milestones for plan making that the Council proposed to deliver and identified the nature and scope for the delivery of Development Plan Documents that are the local planning framework for the Tameside.
On the 2 March 2026 Council approved an updated LDS and resolved that delegated authority be given to the Director of Strategic Growth to make minor updates to the Local Development Scheme to reflect legislative changes or updates to the local plan programme as were presented within this report.
In accordance with that resolution, an updated LDS was provided in Appendix 1 with minor updates to the local plan programme which would ensure that the LDS is kept up to date in accordance with statutory requirements and associated guidance.
Decision
That approval be given to publish and bring into effect in accordance with the date of this decision the updated Local Development Scheme as presented at Appendix 1.
Reasons for the decision
To ensure the Council has an up-to-date Local Development Scheme (LDS) as required by Section 15 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (as amended).
The LDS sets out the key milestones for plan making that the Council proposes to deliver and identifies the nature and scope for the delivery of Development Plan Documents that are the local planning framework for the Tameside.
Alternative options considered
To not prepare an up-to-date Local Development Scheme as required by Section 15 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (as amended), which it is believed would not be in the best interests of Tameside and potentially places at risk available grant funding to deliver local plans.
