Decision

RESOLVED

That the Council:

1. Welcomes the debate and discussion that the Notice of Motion has generated in respect of protection of the Teign Estuary.
2. Supports the sensitive management of the Teign Estuary and recognises it as a valued landscape, along with many other parts of the District.
3. Recognises the merits of the Notice of Motion proposed but considers that such an important decision should be taken following more consideration, consultation, the exploration of all options and any required resources having been identified.
4. Supports the commissioning of a district-wide landscape significance review to assess whether any areas of Teignbridge, including the Teign Estuary, may possess characteristics of national significance that could warrant future consideration for National Landscape designation or other enhanced landscape protection. The review will provide an evidence-based assessment and recommendations on whether any further investigation is justified.
5. Asks the Executive Member for Environment, Climate Change and Sustainability to invite relevant stakeholders to raise any further or immediate concerns about the Teign Estuary. These concerns to be the subject of a special meeting of the Teign Estuary and Coastal Partnership (TECP) to which all interested parties will be invited to attend.
