The Environment Scrutiny Committee is the main forum used to examine and monitor issues relating to the environment, ecology and the natural and built environment. Its remit includes sustainable planning, building conservation and heritage, waste management and recycling, environmental maintenance, and all aspects of local infrastructure such as transport, communications, drainage, water, lighting, bridges and structures. It also covers public transport, rights of way, the highways network including improvements, cycleways and parking, as well as local nature reserves, parks, green spaces and the Green Guarantee. The Committee is the designated scrutiny body for Flood and Water Management under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010.
