Decision

The mooring fees and any other associated fees for the historic vessel Rummy III are waived at a cost of £180.96.

Reasons for the decision

Ramsgate Royal Harbour have been approached by the owner of historic vessel Rummy III regarding a night’s stay at the harbour whilst they transit to a large community event and celebration in Guernsey. Rummy III is on the National Historic Ships Register and played a vital part in WWII. The vessel is not a Dunkirk little ship but participated in other parts of the war effort. The vessel will be staying at Ramsgate Royal Harbour on the night of the 1st/2nd May and 15/16th May. The vessel itself is not a charity but has strong links and support from the Royal Navy Patrol Service Association. The port and harbour’s ongoing support for vessels of historic significance reinforces its status as a heritage-friendly port and harbour, providing mooring concessions and a warm welcome to ships that educate the public and honour naval history. Hosting boats like the Rummy III aligns with Ramsgate’s commitment to preserving and celebrating Britain’s maritime past.

Alternative options considered

If the Council did not waive the berthing fees the vessel would not come to Ramsgate Royal Harbour as it would not be commercially viable to the company.  Ramsgate Royal Harbour would therefore lose the positive benefits of its visit. For this reason this option was discounted.
