Purpose

The Volunteer Policy was last
adopted on 15 December 2021. An officer working group was formed to
review the existing Volunteer Policy and provide a new policy
incorporating groups such as CICs within the new policy.

Decision

Cabinet agreed the following:
 
1. 
To adopt the Volunteer Policy presented as Annex 1 in the Cabinet
report, with effect from 2 August 2025.

Reasons for the decision

By the Council having an adopted Volunteer
Policy this encourages volunteers to take part in projects that
make Thanet a great place to live in and visit as they can see that
policies and procedures exist that are designed to protect and
value them.

Alternative options considered

The Council could decide not to adopt the new
Volunteer Policy but to stay with the currently adopted policy from
2021. This is not the preferred option because there is a
recognised need to improve the Volunteer Policy to include groups
who engage volunteers.
