September 21, 2023 Cabinet (Cabinet collective) Key decision Awaiting outcome View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
A report was presented to Cabinet proposing that expenditure be approved for the delivery of the Viking to Dumpton Gap Sea Wall Repair Scheme. The scheme involves the repair and replacement of sea wall components over an 1,100 metre length of coastline. This scheme is included in the 2023/24 capital programme and is 100% funded via an Environment Agency grant in the value of £406k.
Decision
Cabinet approved expenditure in relation to this scheme and up to the value of the Environment Agency grant of £406k.
Reasons for the decision
To ensure the sea wall and promenade between Viking Bay and Dumpton Gap does not deteriorate or fail.
Alternative options considered
The alternative, not to deliver this fully funded capital scheme was rejected as it would result in withdrawal of the grant offer and the continued deterioration and eventual failure of the sea wall and promenade.
