Purpose

The council is responsible for
the maintenance of approximately 500 street lights across the
district.  A project is included in the
2023/24 capital programme to replace or upgrade some of the
existing street lighting with newer technology energy efficient LED
fittings and where necessary new lighting columns. This will not
only reduce energy consumption in line with the Council’s net
Zero Strategy, the fittings also have a much longer design life so
will reduce the frequency of future maintenance visits.

Decision

To incur expenditure of approximately
£333k for the replacement and/or upgrade of lighting
provision at various locations within the district. The funding
consists of a £283k capital budget and a contribution of up
to £50k from Broadstairs and St
Peter’s Town Council for lighting works at Broadstairs Harbour and Victoria Parade.
