Decision

Consideration was given to the recommendations of the Finance, Regeneration and Property Scrutiny Select Committee in respect of the proposed Artificial Intelligence Governance Framework Policy.

Cabinet noted that the Policy established a framework for the ethical, secure and effective use of artificial intelligence across the Borough Council, including governance, oversight and assurance arrangements. 

Due regard was given to the views of the Scrutiny Select Committee, the financial and value for money considerations, the legal implications and the assessment of risk.

In recognition of the need to support innovation whilst maintaining robust governance and public confidence, Councillor Coffin proposed, Councillor Boughton (Chair) seconded and Cabinet

RESOLVED:  That

(1)          the Artificial Intelligence Governance Framework Policy, attached at Annex 1, be approved for adoption and implementation;

(2)          the establishment and ongoing operation of robust Artificial Intelligence governance and oversight arrangements, as set out in the report, be approved;

(3)          support be given to the principle of human-centred and transparent use of Artificial Intelligence, as set out in the report; and

(4)          ongoing investment in workforce skills and capability, responsible procurement and continuous monitoring, as set out in the report, be approved.
