? The Torfaen MyST team provides a twenty-four
hour, 365 day a year wraparound service to children, young people
and their carers/networks who have complex and risky presentations,
supported out of core working hours via an on-call and on-call back
up rota system.

? Whilst essential to safely and effectively manage the high level
of risk and complexity of the young people who are on the intensive
caseload, as well as continuing the delivery of their
individualised mental health interventions, both the team on-call
and regional on-call back up service have been thinly resourced.
This has led to significant pressures staffing these aspects of the
service.

? In order to explore a potential solution to this issue, a Young
Persons Practitioner (YPP) has been acting up as a Lead Therapeutic
Practitioner (LTP A) since January 2025. The outcome of the
mid-point review is that the changes have made a positive impact to
the resources of the on-call and on-call back up system and other
Local Authorities have begun to adopt the same structure.
