Welsh Government have awarded all local
authorities in Wales grant funding of £50,000 for 2023/24 to
deliver work linking to the WG strategy ‘Age friendly Wales:
our strategy for an ageing society’.

The funding is a Programme for Government commitment until 2026.
Funding is confirmed to 31st March 2024; funding for the 2024-25
and 2025-26 years is indicative. It is therefore hoped that we will
be able to extend the post each year, to 31st March 2026.

Most, if not all, local authorities are utilising the funding to
increase officer capacity to develop and deliver the work
programme. Neighbouring Gwent LAs have all taken this approach and
an Age Friendly Communities officer network has been
established.

This report seeks agreement for the post to be created, fully
funded by the Welsh Government grant until 31st March 2024,
advertised initially for internal secondment and if it
doesn’t attract applicants advertised externally as a Fixed
Term contract to end of March 2024 with the potential to extend
subject to grant funding.
