October 15, 2026 Key decision Awaiting outcome View on council websiteFull council record
Decision
RESOLVED to approve:
I. The proposal to demolish the former Alexia House the cost of which is included within the overall allowance for new build pipeline within the HRA Business Plan, with the contract let in line with the Scheme of Delegation to Chief Officers as set out in the UDC Constitution.
II. That a new planning application is progressed to deliver a new build housing scheme on the former Alexia House site that provides 9 x 3 and 4 bed family homes.
Reasons for the decision
The report requested that Cabinet approve the demolition of Alexia House, a vacant and obsolete sheltered scheme before submitting a new planning application to build a new affordable housing scheme. The rationale for the recommendation was that UDC faces growing housing need pressures, as well as the additional associated costs and lost income from the vacant properties on the relevant site.
Alternative options considered
The Options Appraisal was set-out in Appendix A to the report. The appendix was restricted by virtue of paragraph(s) 3 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972 (information relating to the financial or business affairs of any particular person, including the authority holding that information).
