Purpose

One YMCA (OYMCA) have taken a lease of a
building in Central Watford that contains 6 x 1 bedroom flats and
have offered the Council nomination rights and use of the 6 x 1
bedroom flats for supported family temporary accommodation.
The occupants rent will cover OYMCA’s lease and housing
management costs. OYMCA will need a grant of £13,000 per year
from Watford Council to cover the cost of providing support to the
occupants.
As short term temporary accommodation they are suitable for smaller
families, made up of 1-3 people.
The scheme will provide additional good quality local temporary
accommodation run by a Register Provider, giving the Council
confidence of accommodation and service standards.
It will also provide a new type of temporary accommodation.
Currently Watford’s only temporary accommodation with
additional support is for singles.
The annual cost of £13,000 to support 6 families is more cost
effective than the current alternative of B&B or Nightly lets
which average £17,000 per year cost per family.
