Purpose

Watford Borough Council is commissioning a permanent public artwork in honour of the late Margaret Maughan, Great Britain’s first Paralympic gold medallist and a long-term Watford resident. Located within the new Riverwell Square, the artwork will celebrate Margaret’s remarkable life, achievements and legacy, while creating a lasting public tribute in a prominent and accessible civic space. The commission will also contribute to the quality, identity and cultural value of the Riverwell development, providing residents, visitors and future generations with a meaningful focal point for reflection, pride and inspiration. WBC will allocate £50,000 of CIL funding to support the delivery of this sculpture commission.
