To approve the disposal of a small piece of
land off Weybourne Road at the entrance to William Cobbett School,
Weybourne Road, Farnham at nil consideration.
The land is to be sold to Surrey County Council who will then lease
it to the William Cobbett School on a 125-year lease.

Reasons for the decision

After reviewing the options, we are
recommending a freehold transfer of this small piece of land to SCC
so they can grant a lease and progress the academy conversion with
the William Cobbett School. As this benefits one of our partners,
SCC, and provides wider community benefit by supporting a local
school, this represents best value to WBC. We have an undertaking
for our legal and valuation fees from SCC, so there will no cost to
WBC in this transaction.

Alternative options considered

Alternative options considered were:
-WBC to lease the small piece of land to William Cobbett School on
a 125-year lease. This was ruled out because a lease means there
are obligations on both parties which WBC did not want on such a
small piece of land.
-The Legal team advise that the fact WBC own this very small piece
of land at all is likely a Land Registry mapping error. If time was
not a factor, this is the route we would have taken. However, the
school had a tight deadline so this was ruled out.
