To recruit a new role - Joint Resettlement Project Officer
June 23, 2026 Joint Chief Executive of Guildford and Waverley Borough Councils (Officer) Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Decision
To employ a joint resettlement project officer to work across Guildford & Waverley. This is a new joint role to further expand our support to refugees in both boroughs. Guildford and Waverley have historically worked together on refugee resettlement projects, so the infrastructure and staff support is in place
Reasons for the decision
The main objective of this role is to plan, coordinate, and deliver projects and events that support the successful integration and wellbeing of refugee communities. This includes initiatives such as facilitating access to suitable ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programs, connecting with religious leaders, organizing inclusive community events like family days, fostering cross-cultural connections, and engaging with employers to create pathways to employment for refugees.
It is a poignant and vital role for our councils as we remain steadfast in our commitment to mutual respect, inclusion and the protection of fundamental freedoms and pledge to continue to work with
partners, residents and community organisations to promote understanding, cohesion and safety.
Alternative options considered
Options Considered
Option 1Remain as is: No new role, this option is not preferred as it is not the best use of available budget and opportunity to make a valuable contribution.
Option 2Do minimum: Waverley Borough Council & Guildford Borough Council recruit resettlement officers separately. Two separate roles would cost the council’s more than a joint role so this is not the preferred option.
Option 3Do maximum: A new joint role across both councils.
Option 4Contracting Out: This option is not preferred as there will be quality and strategic oversight if this role sits within the internal team.
Option 5Other – do something different. This is not an option due to no available resource
