The Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) is an advisory body that provides guidance to the local education authority on matters related to religious education and collective worship in community schools. It considers applications for schools to be released from the requirement for collective worship to be primarily Christian in character. The SACRE also advises on the locally agreed syllabus for religious education, teacher training, and reviews of the syllabus. It is composed of four groups representing Christian denominations, other religions, teachers' associations, and the local authority.
