Mechanical Biological Treatment Facility Reinstatement Works ECC01 (25/26)
May 27, 2025 Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change (Cllr Deborah Urquhart) (Cabinet member) Key decision Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
The County Council, acting in its
capacity as statutory Waste Disposal Authority, is responsible
under Section 51 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 for the
disposal of controlled waste collected by the district and borough
councils in West Sussex.
The County
Council owns a Mechanical Biological Treatment facility located in
Warnham, near Horsham. In May 2024 a landslip occurred on the site
that caused damage, and remedial works for the slope failure and to
allow the gas storage area to be reinstated are now
required.
Decision
The Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate
Change has approved the capital allocation of £2.417m for the
remedial works required at the Mechanical Biological Treatment
facility to address a recent landslip, the funds to be applied
through the Materials Resource Management Contract and the works to
be commissioned and overseen by Biffa as operator of the site.
